talking with strangers on street corners

April 16, 2022

“Do you trust me?” he asked.

“Entirely.” I responded. “What do you think this is about?”

As we stood on the street talking for hours.

I had this conversation with someone who I met on the street in Fayetteville. We met on the corner and then walked to an alleyway with another person for a smoke break. Three strangers coming together to share a moment in time.

One had recently tried to commit suicide.

We talked about our lives. Our childhood. Experiences in life. Past pains, joys, and all else. It is humbling to know how many similarities we shared. Direct points of connection, instead of seven degrees of separation.

It was a conversation that I still carry with me and visit frequently. I find that when we settle into the slow, natural rhythm of a day — letting seconds tick by just as they may — we can pass our time in incredible ways.

Receiving teaching and healing in the most unexpected spaces—

Like a street corner in the city.
