spiritual realm discovering

May 22, 2022

I found myself driving to the top of a mountain. Rain drizzling down and the road washing out. At the top, I was entirely submerged into the clouds. It was an incredible feeling where time stopped completely. I was standing at the edge looking into nothing when the rain moved in again. Thunder first. Then lightning. I moved down the trail where they had just finished building a shelter when the rain started pouring down.

I was soaked through. My boots were muddy; my pants wet; and, still I was smiling. This was a moment where I got caught in the rain. When I got back to my camp, I settled into my tent where I could look out and watch the rain fall while I wrote.

I woke up that morning feeling lost and ended up driving to the mountain top. Sometimes I wonder if the feeling I had that morning was related to the energy wave that was about to flow into our lives that day. It was here where I heard the news of a school shooting and saw the reactions on social media. It is difficult for me to see so many advocating for the reduction of our freedom. It is a slippery slope. We need to be mindful of that as we advocate for change.

I don’t know what the solution is.
I know that tragedies happen.
Statistics find trends.
Media uses fear language.
Eventually, it all seems to come down to
which politician is politicking.

So, I think —
The change will come
when the conversations shift—
from a place of fear to compassion.

And we say to the family of the one who shot the gun—
I am sorry for your loss and how we failed your child.

No matter the age, circumstances, or the outrage —
if we seek compassion,
we will always find love.
