When you enter into Yellowstone from the east, the mountains are rising so tall that it almost feels overwhelming. To feel small is a true feeling. Humans have built their world to our scale, so you get used to everything being your size. But in Yellowstone, the rocky mountains are still rising. This instantly made me feel humble. Actually, I felt so overwhelmed that we had to pull over on the side of the road and sit on the ground to take it in.
I had to stop and take a moment to think like the mountain.
I was having a hard time that morning stressing over things that I can’t control and worrying if I was staying true to my path. But when we drove into the mountains, all of it started slipping away — a type of “ego death” I suppose, when I began to consider the mountain and it’s lifeline compared to mine. It’s good to feel small every now and again and I have been finding on this journey that there are many great things out in the wild that will help you feel small for just a little while.
And that can inspire all sorts of feelings — art— and creation.

Yellowstone is a spiritual place—
an active volcano—
a humbling space.
